Oamenii de stiinta au descoperit ca renii isi schimba drastic culoarea ochilor intre vara si iarna pentru a se putea adapta schimbarilor extreme de intensitate ale luminii.

Vara, cand zilele sunt lungi si lumina este puternica, ochii renilor sunt de culoare maro auriu. Cum soseste iarna si zilele sunt mai scurte iar lumina este mai slaba, ochii se transforma intr-un albastru intens.

Potrivit cercetatorilor, aceasta ciudatenie face parte din mecanismul de aparare al animalelor iar in cazul renilor, ochii pe timp de iarna le permite sa detecteze pradatorii care se deplaseaza in intuneric.

Descoperirea a fost o surpriza majora si pentru expertii in domeniu. “A fost o distinctie clara in ceea ce priveste culoarea ochilor intre vara si iarna si am fost complet socati de acest lucru. Nu ne-am fi asteptat niciodata, era ultimul lucru pe care il cautam, dar a fost cel mai evident lucru cu putinta atunci cand vezi ochii. Mare schimbare de culoare”, a declarat cercetatorul sef, Glen Jeffrey, conform haaretz.com.

Niciun alt mamifer nu isi schimba culoarea ochilor in functie de sezon si in niciun caz atat de dramatic.
